How to sprout grass for parrots at home
There are many ways to grow grass at home. As a substrate, they use soil, they germinate in wet gauze, cotton, etc. We offer you a method of germinating greens, which is most suitable for feeding your pets. The advantage of this method is that it uses fruit shavings as a substrate, which the bird can eat without health consequences.
- Rinse the seeds (millet, oats, etc.).
- Soak them in 1 cup of water for 30 minutes. Throw away those seeds that remain on the surface of the water – they will not give sprouts. Germinate seeds that have sunk to the bottom.
- On the bottom of a wide container with a flat bottom and low sides (baking dish, plastic tray), add 1–1.5 cm layer of chips.
- Put soaked seeds on the chip in an even thin layer. They are sown tightly, the distance between the seeds does not need to be maintained. This is not seedlings, but a young shoot – the denser it rises, the better.
- Fill a layer of seeds with a layer of sawdust (1–1.5 cm), pour it with warm water, cover with a film and put in a warm place (in the winter season – on a heating radiator).
